Hey Justin, In the St. John's area you can expect to find (puddle ducks) Black ducks, mallards & Green winged teal. But you may also run into Northern pintails, widgeon & blue winged teal. (Divers) Lesser scaup (known locally as white winged divers), Mergansers, sometimes greater scaup, and to a lesser degree you can get into some golden-eyes (rare). but, lately there have been ducks spotted on the Avalon that are very rare like tufted ducks. My suggestion is to take a field guide with you in the field, during the summer and try to identify as many as you can. So, when the fall rolls around you can identify what your going after. Hopefully, this helps.
