There were a few birds moving back and forth, if the decoys were out I think they would have came in for a look. I'm using Black Cloud 3 1/2 inch #2, BB and BBB. If they come in range I should be able to drop them, well if my shooting is on. LOL

Hey Rich, your spread laout didn't work out either hey. No worries, hopefully we'll both get it straight before the season ends, LOL. see many birds? we are seeing them but they are too far away. got two to come close but still outside shooting range, just barely though. what type of ammo do you use? I'm using winchester dry-lock long range (steel). well good luck on your next trip. Anybody have any success yet with the Eiders?

We tried setting decoys from shore yesterday and never had any luck at all. We were next to the open Atlantic and she has no mercy :) I tried walking out with waders (shallow beach area) and you talk about difficult. The pulley we used kept getting twisted and we didn't have enough weight to keep it set. I'm thinking a heavy weight (small brick?) tied to a bleach bottle (10 ' rope between them, rope longer depending on area), then a long rope (threw the handle) used to pull the decoys out to the the bleach bottle.
Here are some pictures, it wasn't productive lol.

Need some help!! Can anyone explain the process to set eider decoys when hunting from shore (no boat). I tried today, but all I got was a tangled mess and No distance. What am I doing wrong? Ed

I haven't been out there in a while but Western Bay was always full of what we call sea ducks. Through the binos we could count hundreds.

When hunting Eiders, do you make your own decoys or buy them?

I drive through it to get home (St. Anthony area.) Usually see a few geese on the bogs, have never hunted around there though. Should definitely be a good trip for you guys.

Cool, Next year my hunting buddy and I are heading on a week long hunting trip accross the island. Hoping to do some in central, Northern peninsula, and around the Stephenville area. I only know the St. paul's area For hunting up on the Northern Peninsula. have you hunted there?

I do the majority of the hunting on the Northern Peninsula, but I doubt you're gonna want to drive 12 hours, haha. Conception Bay always has a lot of Eiders, and out around Carbonear is pretty decent too I'm told.
