Murre (turr) hunters:

All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

Federal wildlife were checking all the boats on the water today which was the first time I ever saw that. They were mainly interested in the condition of the birds and that there were no unlawful species. There weren't a whole lot of boats out and I think everyone was compliant so no problems. The point is they are vigilant and their presence is most welcomed. If everyone is compliant then the resource will always be healthy. We are very thankful to continue in our tradition.

That’s crazy, hope they get caught some day.

We came across 10 razor bills floating together. We dipped them and all faces and bills were cut off. No need.

I agree.

I also reccomend people not throw their empty hulls overboard. Leave them in the boat and throw them in the garbage when you get home. Thats what I do.

I know you wont get every hull but lets try and keep our ocean clean as possible.

Some people just shouldn’t be allowed out in the boat. Came upon a puffin dead on the water yesterday with the empty shell casing right beside it. I know they are all black and white but it is not that hard to tell them apart and if you don’t know you shouldn’t be out there.

The sun crossed the line on a SW wind. Blow the legs off a goat with westerlies.

Even when there is wind or a storm coming you get the day before the storm. Can't bank on that anymore.

Nothing in yet. If the wind don't let up. I guess I will be getting them in our harbour like years ago. Lol
