Murre (turr) hunters:

All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

Some tinkers in CBS & Trinity Bay.

Its not a boat limit. Its a personal limit. If i just killed 20 and i have 20 in my freezer thats a limit of 40 for me. If i eat 5 i can them kill 5 more. That's the lay of the rules.

Me and my son dont need 80 birds between us lol. We do give a few to people that cannot get out themeslves. Specially the older folks who grew up eating them.

That is a good question Shawn. On page 18 of the hunter and trapper guide it states that the limit is 20 birds per person with a possession limit of 40. I do not see anything about having 80 if four people are aboard the boat. It used to state that the boat limit was 60. Some clarification may be a good idea on this. I do not personally think that it is a good idea to go beyond 60 per boat.

My thoughts, the wildlife should be around more often.

I was up in placentia on thursday. Wildlife was there when we came in . they were handing out pamphlets. And done a visual check of our birds. And were asking about tinkers and razzor bills.

If you have 4 in a boat can you have 80 birds. A buddy of mine ask fisheries and they said if all four have licences they can bring in 80

I find the wildlife officers pretty good to deal with. I know some provincial and a federal. These guys are dedicated to their jobs and the preservation of our wildlife.

Turrs are very special to us Nflders.

Hopefully the person or persons sees the wrong of their ways.

We went out from Argentia. A Federal wildlife officer was there as well as a provincial wildlife enforcement officer. They were handing out information pamphlets and just asking a few questions about bird species. They were particularly interested in Razor Billed Auks (Tinkers). We didn't see any. They also did a visual look at our birds. I must say that they were pretty good and I thanked them for showing up. There were only about ten boats out and plenty of birds on the go but a good sea state and chop in the water.

I too have had an incident with an idiot a few years back. Someone broke out the tail light on my new truck while parked on the wharf in Placentia. I found out who did it and he was dealt with.

My son was out with his friends a while ago. They had 1 turr with oil on it in St Mary's Bay.

Also seen someone say they went out of Jerseyside Placentia. He reported having damage done to his trailer. The winch on the trailer was inoperable. He has since opened a case with the local RCMP.

3 years ago there was nails and screws dumped on a boat launch in Argentia. It the actions of a few that can give an area a bad name. There is no need. We had an issue in Jeresyside last year. Ripped up 2 new tires taking up the boat. The people really came and gave us a hand. Got us out of a bad jam.
